Vacation, Vacation, Vacation! My husband and I didn’t go on a honeymoon right after we got married. The wedding got a little expensive and we decided to wait. Finally, after 4 months, we went on a romantic honeymoon to Hawaii!
Hawaii is a dream! We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki just across the street to the beach. We loved it. The hotel is going through a lot of changes so there was some construction, but not enough to be annoying. All of the rooms had been remodeled and the lobby was completely finished. We got lucky when we booked with a complimentary breakfast, which was incredible every day. Big shoutout to whoever came up with the idea of making a Papaya parfait because that was one of my personal favorites (my husband will totally vouch for me on this one).
We did quite a few activities while there. We rented jet skis, went snorkeling, rode submarine scooters, went snorkeling, had shave ice, went snorkeling, and did I mention we went snorkeling? I’m not over exaggerating, Nik and I took our snorkeling gear everywhere because you don’t wanna miss an opportunity to see colorful fish or sea turtles when you’re in Hawaii.
The best place to snorkel from what we found was Hanauma Bay for sure. It’s like snorkeling inside of an aquarium. This was an incredible experience! In some of the places, the water isn’t deep, maybe 2 feet, but the amount of fish is amazing. It’s so great to experience things like this and to remember that God created each one of them different and beautiful in its own way. Not just that, but God also allows us to enjoy His creations!
My personal favorite activity was going 30 feet under the surface on a submarine scooter. We went with Island Watersports. They take you to an underwater crater where sea turtles gather to get cleaned by fish. They also give you some bread when you go down so the fish come right to you! Each person gets a diver to go down with and the diver moves you around to different spots in the crater. I got up close and personal with a sea turtle and that was my favorite part of the trip. Nik can confirm how many times I talked about seeing a sea turtle, so having one a foot away from my face was awesome.
We ended the trip with a hike to Monoa Falls. I’ve never been in a jungle, but now I can say I have. Seriously, some of the leaves on the plants there were bigger than me! There were flowers and plants I’ve never seen in my life. The hike was super easy and short. It was only about a mile each way. There was some climbing involved and it was muddy, but it adds on to the experience. Some of our favorite shows like Lost and Hawaii Five-O were filmed here, which was interesting to see. It was a nice way to get out the beach scene and into the mountains.
I loved this trip and I loved going with my husband. It was so romantic to swim together, beach bum together, and go out to eat together. I love that this trip was able to get us closer to each other and away from every day things like work and social media. Hawaii is so beautiful with its clear water and green mountains. Every view is breath taking there and it’s amazing to see how the locals embrace their culture as well. Tourism sells there with Hawaiian shirts and leis, even though the locals don’t actually wear those things all the time. Shocker. I know. After this trip all I can say is God created beautiful things in nature, in my husband, and in our marriage.
