Forest

I wanted to move forward,
But the forest was dark.
I saw branches and twigs
Things to trip me up.

I stared into this darkness
Knowing I didn’t want to go,
But my feet moved forward,
Two steps…three steps…four.

Before I knew it,
I was in too deep.
I was in the middle of nowhere
Just dragging my feet.

I heard no sounds, and
The sky was grey.
But before I knew it,
It started to rain

I saw shadows around
They were terrorizing me.
And I realized quickly
Those shadows were me.

They were different versions
Of my life in the past,
Pouring salt on my wounds,
Chaining my arms.

And in that moment of chaos
I fell to my knees
Tears racing down my face
As I whispered, “Please.”

I saw an arm reach for me,
That’s when I met you,
And it all seemed to change!
I knew at that moment,                                                                                                         I’d never be the same.

You took me in your arms
And you healed my soul,
And for the first time I felt
Not broken, but whole.

For the first time
I couldn’t find any wounds,
And I heard the birds sings and
I heard the rain stop and I saw
The sun’s rays break through the clouds.

I heard your voice when you said, “You’re mine”
And for the first time, I was totally fine.
The death of autumn meant nothing to me
And I saw spring blossoms emerge from the trees.

I even smiled,
Something I forgot how to do,
And I couldn’t wait to tell others of you.
I stood up quickly and I gave you my all,
I gave you my heart, my mind and my soul.

From this moment on
Every breath that I breathe
Every word that I speak
Will glorify you…
You showed me the way.
Lord, please let me be someone
Every second of every minute of every day.
